About

Moriso is a lab and playground of printed matter that wants to build a bridge between sustainability, revaluation of paper, design & art. In the workplace we look for the best solution in risography for each specific project. This can range from unique pieces such as artworks to larger editions or books. We offer a service of extreme quality and try to educate ourselves every day. The material is very broad but has in everything a love for imagery and magic. We try to translate this into a limited edition in cooperation with the artist/designer. Moriso is a hybrid between different designers. a place where experimentation can occur and knowledge can be shared.

A riso machine knows his origin in 1946 in the middle of post-war Japan. The name was chosen because the founder of the firm, Noboru Hayama, felt that people should not lose their ideals in times of despair. The Riso-duplicator as a machine that is best compared to screen printing. The machine works with color drums. Each drum has a specific color and the ink to be added is soy-based. The master sheets (can be compared to screenwindow) are made of banana paper. This makes the riso duplicator extremely durable and sustainable. The printed colors are extremely vivid and bright. It works different than inkjet-or laserprinters.

More than just a Riso

The name of our Playground (as we like to call it) also stands for the slogan "more than just a riso." With which the research lab does not want to limit itself to only the riso medium. Various printing techniques are addressed in this research section such as screen printing and 3d Print or textile printing. The main focus throughout all projects remains liveliness, fun and magic.
This can be reflected in the colors as well as in the philosophy behind a project/artist or in the imagery fiercely present. Moriso wants to commit to sustainability, quality and honesty. The collaborations we do with other artists are based on added value to our philosophy and to our own thought process. The collaborations and published items are self-selected and serve as a conversation between Moriso and the artist themselves. We guarantee that the artists will be paid fairly and we discuss with the artist what aspects are important for both parties.

Archive

The website offers an archive with an category filter which should make it clear what we're working on. In this way we also open up our lab to third parties to work with the medium of riso. Just as well, the filter allows the ability to scroll between our editions/books/posters/lab projects, etc. The lab projects are projects that come from third parties and are not started by moriso itself. This is the reason why the imagery might differentiate with the own published work but therefore not less interesting to show as well.

Our Shop

Our shop is through a separate secure browser which ensures that all your payments can be made safely. The store is provided thanks to "Stripe" and one.com. Payments via Bancontact and MasterCard are possible. If you have any questions about working with invoicing, this is also perfectly possible. All you have to do is send an e-mail to verhelst.Victor@gmail.com or info@moriso.be. Not everything from our archive is offered for sale through our webshop. For specific items, the artist/designer/person must be contacted. We don't sell lab-projects as well.

Framing

We provide standard framing but on request we could provide a more luxurious finish. This can always be discussed via our contact details.

Our Lab

Our Riso lab is open to third parties. Via the term "lab" in our menu section above, you'll find all information from user fees to opportunities to get started in our lab.

Price Differences

Price differences between the different products are possible and depend on number of colors/edition, and/or paper choices. There's also a price difference possible due to artistic choices of the publisher or the artist(s). We stand behind any decision on this. We want to offer a wide variety of options and something for everyone. Yet we want to be a place where artists/designers are paid for what they perform and do not participate in unrealistic low prices to sell as much as possible. Quality and artistic freedom are very important for us.

Website

Our website is designed and maintained by Pino Type (Graphic designer, Web Developer, Type Designer). Our website is constantly evolving. Therefore some features may be updated over time and things may change. Moriso is committed to making the site as user-friendly as possible and wants it to serve mainly as an archive on this platform.

Shipping

All our prices are excluding shipping costs and including VAT. At checkout, there's the possibility to choose if you would like to pick up the prints yourself or to pay the shipping costs. We're excluding to printing costs to ensure that people can also order prints together and share the shipping costs between them. We do this to be sustainable as well about transport-pollution. Our lab-section has also the possibility to send the projects you would like to see riso-printed. There is just an additional cost above 5 kilos. We use Bpost to ship as efficiently and transparently as possible within Belgium and Europe. We want the magic to start at the beginning of your package. That's why our packing boxes have been designed accordingly. We try to send all orders within a week after payment. Because Moriso is a small company it can happen that we ship a little later or that your order takes a little longer than usual. We will inform you immediately if this would happen to your order.
